Course Description:

(1 credit hour): Prerequisite: None.

An overview of PC hardware, introduction to DOS, Windows 95/98, MS WinWord, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint.

Course Contents: 

A-    MS-DOS                                                                           (4 hours)

1.      An Introduction to MS-DOS

( Knowing the PC, Booting DOS, Entering DOS Commands).

2.      The instructions of the operating system.

( CLS, DATE, TIME, VER, DOSKEY).

3.      Disk drives instructions.

( DIR, using wildcards characters, FORMAT, SYS, LABEL, VOL, DISKCOPY, DISKCOMP, CHKDSK, COPY, deletion and undeletion of files (DEL, ERASE, UNDELETE), rename of files (REN), moving files (MOVE), TYPE, MORE, PRINT, attribute (ATTRIB), HELP).

4.      Creating text files (EDIT, COPY CON), combining tow or more files into one.

5.      Editing DOS commands.

6.      Preparing the hard disk.

7.      Understanding Tree-Structure directories.

(Creating and removing subdirectories, changing current directory, copying files from/to a subdirectory, the path command).

8.      Composing simple batch files.

( ECHO, IF, GOTO, EXIT, PAUSE, REM, PROMPT, CLS).

Writing AUTOEXEC.BAT files.

 

B-    WINDOWS 95                                                                 (3 hours)

1.      Starting WINDOWS95/98

( windows95/98 desktop, working with windows, the start menu, shut down )

2.      Windows explorer.

3.      My computer icon

4.      The recycle bin.

5.      Using find.

6.      The run command.

7.      Shortcuts (Icons).

8.      MS-DOS prompt.

9.      Taskbar properties.

10.   The control panel.

 

C-    MS-WORD7                                                                    (3 hours)

1.      Starting WORD.

2.      Editing a document.

3.      Text formatting.

4.      Sorting.

5.      Finding and replacing.

6.      Spelling.

7.      Tables.

8.      Page numbering.

9.      Printing a document.

 

D-    EXCEL FOR WINDOWS                                              (3 hours)

1.      Workbooks, worksheets, cells ( copying, moving, inserting and deleting of cells ).

2.      Controlling the row height and column width.

3.       Working with cells.

4.      Calculations in Excel (Excel built in functions).

5.      Charts ( embedded charts, chart sheets ).

6.      Database.

7.      Pivot tables.
